Originally built as Miami Edison High School in 1928, the Miami-Edison Middle School complex consists of three historic structures that were completely restored and the addition of three new structures consisting of 107,500 square feet of new classrooms, locker rooms and a music wing, all completed at a cost of $27 million.
R.J.Heisenbottle Architects provided Preservation Planning and Full Architectural and Engineering Services. The firm designed and transformed an old architectural relic back to its original grandeur and brought its function into the 21st Century.
It combines the restored facility and new construction together in a cohesive, well organized middle school, capable of providing a full range of services for students today and well into the future. The goal was to create a state-of-the-art facility to serve 1450 middle school students.
