Yamile Fernandez is an Architectural Associate at RJHA whose passion for creativity
and design began early in life. A native Floridian, she started painting at the age of
seven and quickly developed a deep appreciation for color theory, artistic expression,
and the ways creative work can shape human experience. After initially majoring in
psychology, Yamile soon realized her true calling in design, recognizing the power of
thoughtfully designed spaces to positively impact people’s lives.
She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from Florida International
University, where she also minored in Fine Art, before continuing on to receive her
Master’s degree in Architecture. Her multidisciplinary background continues to influence
her thoughtful and highly visual approach to design.
Yamile began her professional career working with internationally recognized firms
including HOK, Arcadis, and Gensler, where she served as a Project Manager
specializing in workplace design. Through these experiences, she developed expertise
in creating environments that balance functionality, aesthetics, and user experience.
Since joining RJHA, Yamile has played a key leadership role in several projects, most
notably leading the interiors for the Coral Gables City Hall Restoration Project. Her work
reflects a strong appreciation for history, craftsmanship, and the cultural significance of
architecture.
Outside of the studio, Yamile remains deeply connected to her artistic roots through oil
painting and gardening, both of which continue to inspire her creative perspective. She
is also a devoted mother of two, bringing both empathy and balance to her work and
personal life.
